Name of the position: Registered Medical Officer (RMO) (Such position does not existing in Slovak Medical System, only in the UK)

Location: Private hospitals and clinics, all around UK (92 hospitals in total).

Salary: 1900 GBP/ Week!

Working patterns: Business trips - 1 week on (working in UK), 1 week off (in Slovakia or your home country)

Contract length: 6 months minimally

Accommodation, meals: Always provided directly on the location of your job

 

What is RMO?

RMO2Registered Medical Officer is a doctor, responsible for pre-operational and post-operational care. By law, every hospital in the UK must have 1 RMO 24/7 on the place.

While on the shift, doctor must be in hospital 24 hours a day. BUT, this does not mean you will work 24 hours. It is simply a call to work system. When it is needed, you are called to work... You have your own room and privacy directly in the hospital. When your assistance is needed, you are called to work. At some times, RMO is the only qualified doctor in hospital. (But do not be afraid, your duties are limited. This will be described to you during personal interview)

 

Main duties of RMO

  • Patient health risk management (pre-operation and post-operation)
  • Fully engage with patients, consultant and nurses
  • Team leader in a case of cardiac arrest
  • Possibly assist  with research, staff training and clinical audits

 

Minimum requirements for RMO

  • Diploma in medicine
  • 2 years of real post-gradual experience (internship is also counted as an experience)
  • Ideally, 6 months of surgical experience (pre and post operational care experience for at least 6 months is a key)
  • Good English Skills - NO English certificates are required - you simply have to know to speak English
  • Right personality and motivation for the job  

 

When can I start the job?

Well, it is not easy to get a job of registered medical officer (RMO) in the UK. There is a complicated administrative process every doctor has to undertake. This includes:

  • GMC Registration
  • RMO Skills Assessments and tests
  • RMO training directly in the UK
  • Language tests
  • ...

Are there any disadvantages of this job of RMO?

Well, yes as any job, also this job has the disadvantages. The main one are the following:

  • RMO is simply a job in private hospital, so you can not make your attestation in the UK.
  • The work is quite repetitive

 

Still, there is a possibility to go only for a 6 months contract. So, you may try this job, earn great money in just half a year, and after you will see-  you can continue, or you can come back to your native country and work on your attestation or do whatever you want.
